จากแนวนโยบายของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ที่ได้ดำเนินการจัดสอบโครงการ MDX และ MD02 โดยสามารถรับนักเรียนที่มีผลการเรียนดีและมีการกระจายตัวอยู่ทั่วทุกภูมิภาค จึงควรจะคงโครงการดังกล่าวไว้ ดังนั้นคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น จึงกำหนดระบบในการคัดเลือกบุคคลเข้าศึกษาหลักสูตร แพทยศาสตรบัณฑิตแต่ละโครงการ สำหรับปีการศึกษา 2561

รอบที่ 1  รับด้วยแฟ้มสะสมงาน Portfolio ระหว่างเดือน ตุลาคม – ธันวาคม 2560
+ โครงการผู้มีความรู้ความสามารถพิเศษทางวิชาการและภาษาอังกฤษ MDX จำนวน 44 คน
+ โครงการผลิตแพทย์เพิ่มร่วมกับสำนักงานคณะกรรมการดุดมศึกษา MD02 จำนวน 46 คน

รอบที่ 2  การรับแบบโควตาที่มีการสอบข้อเขียน ระหว่างเดือนธันวารคม 2560 ถึง พฤษภาคม 2561 โดยใช้คะแนนวิชาสามัญ จัดสอบโดย สทศ.
+ การรับตรง (โควต้ารหัส 001) จำนวน 50 คน
+ โครงการผลิตแพทย์เพิ่มเพื่อชาวชนบทกลุ่มแพทย์เพื่อชมชน CPIRD จำนวนรับเป็นไปตามที่สำนักงานบริหารโครงการร่วมผลิตแพทย์เพิ่มเพื่อชาวชนบท กระทรวงสาธารณสุขกำหนด
+ โครงการผลิตแพทย์เพิ่มเพื่อชาวชนบทกลุ่มลดความเหลื่อมล้ำ Inclusive จำนวนรับเป็นไปตามที่กระทรวงสาธารณสุขกำหนด

รอบที่ 3 การรับตรงร่วมโครงการกลุ่มสถาบันแพทยศาสตร์แห่งประเทศไทย กสพท. ดำเนินการระหว่างเดือน พฤษภาคม- มิถุนายน 2561 จำนวนรับ 20 คน
